About Hollis Saddle Mules

Hollis Saddle Mules is located near the small town of Ethelsville in Pickens County, Alabama - 15 miles southeast of Columbus, MS.  This rural, forested, farmland area is perfect country for training our mules.  We have miles of back country trails, wide open spaces, forests, rivers, lakes, many types of hunting, as well as quiet streets & busy highways to train our mules to be able to handle real life scenarios.

We train our mules for the real world and do very little round pen training.  We don't have a lot of mules, but we do spend a lot of time training the ones we have and don't offer them for sale until we know they are fully trained, experienced and easy to handle. Our goal is not the quantity of mules we sell, but to provide a few quality hunting and trail saddle mules each year.

All mules are not alike, for example some are better suited to trail riding than hunting.  We work with each mule individually and train the mules in different types of terrain, with dogs, gunfire, wildlife and people until we know all the characteristics & talents of each mule, so we can judge what each mule would be best suited to and the type of person they would work best with. 

Mules are very smart and become attached to people - a good relationship between the two is essential for a successful, enjoyable experience for both the person and the mule.

When you come to buy a mule from us, we will spend time working with you and the mule to make sure the mule you picked out from a picture is really the right mule for you.  If you want to spend more time with the mule (or mules), we can help you to arrange lodging locally to give you the time you need.  We will take you out riding & let you have the time to get to know the mule and make the right choice.  Sometimes, it might be the mule that chooses you! 

If you've only ever had horses before, there's some things you'll need to learn about mules - they are not the same as horses.  But don't let that put you off, we'll work with you to make the change - a change you most likely will never regret.  Our mules are easy to saddle, ride and handle - they like people.  A well trained mule will be your partner for life, and these are the only type of mules we sell.  Don't make the mistake of getting a mule that is only partly trained, or worse gets spooked because he's been mistreated.  We take the time to make sure our mules are fully trained, are of sound mind, healthy and enjoy what they do - they are never mistreated.
